Week of October 16th
Remember that we will go on Wednesday's full-day field trip to Bow Habitat. This will be a wonderful opportunity to extend and build on our learning as it relates to how plants and animals interact with each other in various environments and how this interaction can be represented with a food chain.
On our community walk this week, we explored patterns in Nature. Below are the “I can” statements we used to guide our exploration.
-I can investigate and show examples of patterns and repeating patterns in Nature.
-I can identify which natural pattern an object looks like.
-I can observe, sketch and label my natural object.
In the classroom, we have also been learning and reviewing the following math terminology and how it relates to patterns: core, term, attribute, extend, increase and decrease. Looking for patterns was also a terrific opportunity to learn about sketching like a scientist. A scientist sketches, records and communicates information, not to make art. Along with a drawing, a scientific sketch often includes labels, diagrams, questions, and explanations. As a scientist, you don't have to be an artist to create a successful scientific sketch. You simply have to take your time, observe closely, and record what you see.
Our weekly words to continue to practice:
Look, into, them, her, been, come, than, way, out, people
