Week of May 20th

This week and last, we revisited our unit on Data analysis. We spent time reviewing how to read and interpret information presented in the form of pictographs, bar graphs,  line graphs, and line plots. We learned how to analyze the data presented in the graphs to solve one- and two-step word problems. We discovered how to use multiplication skills to find the numbers represented on these scaled graphs. As a class, we collected data about a topic that interested us and created our bar graphs. In the following week, we will compare all four types of graphs and solve story word problems with the information on the charts.

Our fraction unit is also coming to a close this week. In our unit, we started with paper folding. We began learning what a unit fraction is and learned the denominator in a fraction is the number of equal parts in the whole and the numerator is the number of shaded or selected parts. This week we will be learning to express the relationship between two fractions of the same whole, using <, >, or =, and relate a fraction less than one to its position on the number line. Our fraction unit has also been a great opportunity to re-visit our knowledge of geometrical shapes, names of polygons and learn about parallelograms.

April has been a busy month in music class! Here are some of the highlights from the past month: Grades 3 and 4 put on a great Earth Day assembly and sang “Little Spruce” by Rachelle Van Zanten beautifully. We focused on refining our singing technique and phrasing, ensuring clear enunciation of vowels and consonants. Each class sang their verse with precision and expression. Our time spent practicing vocal technique paid off during the Earth Day assembly, where the students' efforts shone brightly. Their performance not only showcased their musical talents, but also their ability to deliver a polished and emotive rendition of the song while spreading an important message about environmental awareness.
